How it connects

How Genie connects to Plaid

Plaid signs in to your bank on your behalf and gives Genie read access to the accounts you pick. Genie opens Plaid Link, Plaid’s own connection window, inside your Genie account; you choose your bank and sign in to it there. Your bank password goes to Plaid, never to Genie.

Plaid connections in Genie are read-only: balances and transactions. Plaid cannot send payments, and no spending rule can turn a Plaid connection into one that pays.

Before you start

What to have ready

  • A Genie account. Create one if you have not.
  • Online banking sign-in at a bank Plaid supports: most US banks and credit unions.

Step by step

Connect Plaid to Genie

  1. Sign in to Genie, open Account → Connections Vault and choose Add a connection.

Step 1: The Connections Vault with the Add a connection button
  2. Choose Connect a bank. Its card reads Plaid Link · ready to connect.

Step 2: The provider grid with Connect a bank highlighted
  3. Plaid Link opens. Read Plaid’s consent screen and continue.

Step 3: Plaid Link’s opening screen
  4. Search for your bank and select it.

    Step 4: Plaid’s institution search
  5. Sign in with your online banking username and password, and complete any second factor your bank asks for.

Step 5: The bank sign-in step inside Plaid Link
  6. Pick the accounts Genie may read and continue. Plaid returns you to Genie, and the connection appears in your vault under the bank’s own name and logo.

Step 6: The account picker, then the new row in the vault

Once connected

What happens next

Ask your assistant for balances, recent transactions or a spending summary across the accounts you chose.

Banks sometimes ask Plaid to re-authenticate. The row then shows Reconnect, and the same steps repeat.

To disconnect: Open the connection’s panel and choose Disconnect. You can also remove Genie from your bank’s connected apps at my.plaid.com.
