How Genie connects to ChatGPT

ChatGPT connects to Genie’s MCP server at https://genie.paymanai.com/mcp once developer mode is on. It discovers Genie’s OAuth server, registers itself and sends you to Genie to sign in. Nothing to copy.

What to have ready

  • A Genie account. Create one if you have not.
  • A ChatGPT account or workspace where developer mode is allowed.

Step by step

Set up Genie in ChatGPT

  1. In ChatGPT, open Settings → Security and login and turn on Developer mode. Its availability depends on your account and workspace.

  2. Open ChatGPT Plugins and choose +. If your version calls this Apps or Connectors, use its Create action.

  3. Name: Genie. Description: Connect to your Genie finance assistant. MCP server URL: https://genie.paymanai.com/mcp. Authentication: OAuth, with dynamic client registration if the choice is shown. Leave client ID, client secret and custom headers blank.

  4. Create the connection. ChatGPT opens Genie: sign in, or create and verify your account.

  5. Review the callback website Genie shows and choose Connect to Genie. ChatGPT then lists the ask_genie tool.

  6. In a new chat, enable Genie under the tools menu and ask in plain words.

What happens next

Select OAuth wherever an authentication choice appears; Genie requires it for every tool. If your version discovers OAuth without showing these fields, continue to Genie sign-in.

What ChatGPT may spend is set in your Genie account under Policies, not in ChatGPT.

To disconnect: Remove the connector in ChatGPT, or disconnect ChatGPT under Account → Agents in Genie.
